Rigorous academics, rooted in Christian faith.
I loved the liberal arts focus at Calvin, which allowed me to explore many topics and see how they connected to my major.
I studied studio art and french, and found my studies for my major to be rigorous and engaging.

Incoming freshman, I have been on plenty of visits and plan to go there and play college soccer. There has been plenty of friends I know that say they love Calvin and whenever I visit the atmosphere is amazing. I cannot wait to be fully enrolled there this coming fall.
I really like the community on campus. It is pretty small but does not get overly crowded. There are a lot of activities and organizations for students to join. Some professors are so-so and the food can be pretty underwhelming at times.
The academics at Calvin are unrivaled for a private liberal arts school in the Midwest. The professors make an effort to get to know their students. In addition, the resources Calvin students have access to are phenomenal. While the campus is small, it is pretty, with mature trees and brick exterior buildings. However, the location of the campus is rather remote. The remote location makes the camus extremely safe, but it can feel isolated at times. Downtown Grand Rapids may only be a 15-minute drive from campus, but there is nothing within walking distance for a student to do in their free time. This results in limited activities, jobs, and food options for students. Calvin may be growing as a school, but their location limits the extent to which they can grow.
The classes are challenging and the professors are always available. They love talking with students and helping them grow. It’s a great school if you’re looking for a small intimate learning and social environment.
As an international student, I love how many international students there are and how many countries and cultures are represented. I also love how friendly everyone is. But for a Christian school, I see a lot of luke-warm Christians at Calvin. I also think that the professors and I hold the Bible in very different regards. I have a lot of respect for the Bible but I have seen examples of professors who like to pick and choose what they want to believe from the Bible. I would like to see more progress in taking the Bible as truth and building the foundation of the school around that instead of trying to build their own foundation and squeeze the Bible in around it.
It’s good, but hard to find friends. And my dorm, BHT, never has really any doors open. And it is very different then high school
All of the students and staff at Calvin University are extremely kind and welcoming. I came from a large public high school and was very worried about the adjustment. Everyone at Calvin made the adjustment easy and smooth. I have met amazing friends and mentors that strive to see me succeed in school and extracurricular activities.
I am a freshman at Calvin and I love this place. Calvin University is a place where everyone is welcome, when I was planning to study in the United States I was Scared that I would feel left out and would not be able to make friends. But, when I came to this University I felt accepted, people and professors are friendly they help and support you in any way possible. I am glad that I chose this university. If we talk about the academics and the professors here at Calvin, they are the best. at first, I was struggling to understand the concepts so I reached out to my professors and they helped me understand the concepts that were being taught in the class. On top of that Calvin also provides free tutoring session one to one sessions with former students if you need help in lectures and classes.
The classes and professors are good. However, some classes are held later in the evening, which I do not like. The dining hall food is also not that great.
I love the community aspect of Calvin. How the students are so connected to each other and how much love there is for learning and such. The sports teams are also amazing. The teachers are for the most part quite good.
Love it here!! Nothing is perfect that is the only reason I did not give a 5 star rating. The professors are amazing and helpful, the classes are just the right size where you do not feel like just a number!
I would like to change my past as I change my feral students. through that, I can be able to be employ and help those who are un employed.
Calvin is a school that enables the common student to excel at anything they could imagine. At Calvin, you’re not a number in a classroom, or a statistic in a database, but a a person that is cared for and developed by loving staff. Calvin is an amazing place and I totally recommend taking a visit.
I enjoyed the community that was on campus. The professors and other staff were super helpful when I had questions and guided me in helpful directions to help me further in my learning and overall future. There's a ton of helpful resources available to students on and off campus to guide in one's mental, physical, academic, and spiritual self.
Overall a great place to be! Calvin is really a fantastic choice if you are seeking to pursue academic excellence. Though rigorous, their academic programs are rewarding and personal. Calvin also has their largest class incoming 2023 along with the various additions they have done over the past year and future year to come.
The professors in Calvin University are very kind. As an international student, I just came to the United States, so I was very afraid of everything here. But I felt very comfortable at Calvin University, and I was most worried about my studies. What I didn't expect is that the professors here are very kind and patient. They are willing to help me with all the problems I have in my studies, and also help me with how to improve my English, I really appreciate them. Similarly, the students here are very friendly, and I also thank them for their tolerance. I also like the university environment, I like the big lawn, especially in autumn or spring, sitting on it is very comfortable. And Calvin's big pool, which is really perfect, I really like to go swimming there.
The campus is beautiful, and all of the faculty I’ve ever interacted with have been exceedingly kind and informative. However the campus is quite unaccessible to this with wheelchairs or other mobility impairments, there often aren’t elevators, and the staircases are very narrow. 8/10 would recommend
Ten out of ten, my faith grew exponentially and the community is very intentional. People here really do care about their faith lives and want to see and do good in the world.
The community is really inviting and nearly all the people I spend time with care deeply about both their relationship with Christ and doing well academically. I matured a lot in many different ways here and I'd recommend at least a visit to anyone in the market for colleges.
