For the field of Communication Disorders specifically, I felt that there was incredible value in the degree. My first class in the field, an observation class, revealed to me many opportunities I would have in the field and allowed me to make connections with several therapists. I learned of several local opportunities and job openings for speech therapists. WT itself has a speech and hearing clinic that offers internships and even provides some classes for juniors and seniors. WT also offers Masters education in the field.

I thought very highly of my professors at WT. Overall, each professor was actively interested in my success and making the workload as comprehensible to the students as possible. Almost all of my professors emphasized their office hours and encouraged the students to come in for help and ask questions whenever they wanted. Even though some of my courses were quite difficult, many of them were very manageable. With the proper time and dedication, I was able to do well in most of my classes. At times when I did not do well, usually it was because I did not ask my teacher for help.

West Texas A&M University proved to me that wherever there is a dream and a passion, there is always a hope to see those things realized. Teachers and professors invested in me as more than just a student. I was called into offices to be confronted about what was on my mind. I was praised on stage for good performances, and pushed in private to be the best that I could be. I sat face to face with many of my professors when I felt lost, unsure, irresponsible - and ready to change my major yet another time. When I didn't know what I wanted, WT was there. When I needed the chance to explore who I truly was, WT let it happen. When I hadn't a friend in the world, WT came together: united, full of pride. And the result? I have not only seen my thinking grow, but my values, beliefs, and faith; that I can not only dream big, but see my dream come true. That is why I love West Texas A&M University.
